I am smitten with these photos and, of course they come from the great Helmut Newton, who seems too classy for a rag like Gallery (November issue, 1973) – but maybe I am letting the experience of purchasing this used mag on the sidewalk surrounded by cigarette smoke and madness mar my opinion of the publication. It doesn’t seem like Gallery kept this arty edge, more recent covers look like more traditional smut, and the whole thing went belly up last year.
