Oh man, I just found this site (I give it probably an A+) and this just made it twelve times better.
I’m kind of wondering how many different covers there are for the Gunslinger. I have the ’88 version (pre-edit, baby!) and to be honest I can’t recall what the cover looks like. It’s mostly black is all I remember.
But this one’s a good one.
Thanks so much — I’m super psyched you like the site!
It turns out that there are quite a few covers for the Gunslinger… The Michael Whelan art I found so inspiring as a lad graces quite a few, but I’ve got to say, the Japanese, Finnish and Dutch versions are pretty amazing:
I think your edition (US Grant) features the illustration Whelan did for the Slow Mutants chapter depicting Jake and Roland’s problems in the Way Station… but I can’t remember any more details than that, it’s been a long time since I read the Gunslinger and I only got as far as Wolves of the Calla.
Dude, I want Le Pistolero! Forget The Gunslinger.
My cover is the super boring one that’s, like, black and magenta and has the crooked top of the tower on it that looks like it’s made out of neon tubing. No wonder I can’t remember it — I’m trying to purge and heal.
I can see how you’d stop at Wolves of the Calla. That’s the only one I don’t own because, well, why bother? I barely remember it. Something about wolves. Something about the Calla? Probably. But you really, really need to finish the series. The last book will make you cry like a baby. You’ve GOT to find out what’s at the top of the tower! Push all other books off of your To Read list and get crackin, pops.
