I was purple grapes the year before. Cant remember if it was my mom or i who was lazy in the concept department.
As a young kid I used to dress up as a punk rocker a lot. Also pictured is Betsy my “big friend”, a real punk rock girl that they paired me with because she didn’t scare me. I believe this is kindergarten or first grade, so 1984?
The Grace Jones concert last night at Hammerstein Ballroom was absolutely amazing. Sadly, my little camera could do very little to capture the costume changes, but I am sure someone out there got better photos and I’ll find them. Meanwhile – a few images to give you a taste.
She opened with a song while drapped in silver – like a nine foot alien ghost.
With an epic train designed by Eiko Ishioka and a wind machine, she became a HURRICANE!
The diva morphing on screen as she chatted back stage to us about sex, heartbreak, and wine.

Stills from the glittertastic documentary The Cockettes by David Weissman and Bill Weber. The performance group/acid heads depicted were drugged out, hippie drag queens swathed in glitter, crinoline, hoop skirts, and colored lace. Any fan of vintage and dressing up can’t help but be inspired by these images. There are many more after the jump.
