I didn’t remember Niagara Falls Ontario being the Atlantic City of the north, then again I also don’t remember Frankenstein’s monster being a fan of the Whopper. I wish I had gone into this combo House of Horror/Burger King, but I suppose I can visit the one in Times Square if I want that as well, it would just be less campy.

Well, dear readers, sad to say I had to take this morning off to recuperate from a vicious bout of food poisoning!! I managed to still make it out this afternoon to the Mercat Boqueria, the city’s (and possibly the world’s) most incredible food market…

where these fruit juices may have just saved my life…

and fishes stare at you with imploring eyes…

where chocolate hedgehogs sit next to chocolate boobs…

and prawns crowd each other, waiting to be plucked and eaten…

There are sea urchins…

and razor clams…

a variety of teeming crustaceans…

salted cod…

and rabbits that have seen better days.

No matter how sick you are, you must try the local ham (we ate from the centered one in the very first photo)…

and who can resist such vibrant candy?

After a stroll down La Ramblas with hordes of Euro celebrators, we snuggled into an easy going New Years (Happy 2010, everyone!) followed by more mind blowing television…

About two hours outside the city (via rail) lies the town of Figueres, home of the Salvador Dali museum. It’s not super easy to convey just how awesome this place actually is; the breath and depth of the collection and the range and scope of the work is nothing short of… surreal.

Speaking of surreality, as it write this, Spain’s version of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ is on…

Barcelona Day 2

Started the day walking by the Block of Discord. This is Gaudi’s Casa Batllo.

Then it was pure decadence with foie gras and eggs at a small restaurant hidden in a deli called Matequeria Ravell, through the kitchen and up some stairs.

The amazing Sagrada Familia under construction.

Las Tres Cruces in the Park Guell, where we spent most of the day…

…seeing invisible men…

…and taking in the beauty.

Then more food! at Cervecería Ciudad Condal.

And we couldn’t forget dinner.. Here Jim stands in line with locals and Japanese tourists waiting for La Rita to open…

…which served one of the best cakes I’ve ever had.

Turns out, by the looks of this menu, I don’t know any Spanish at all. So I just guessed when it came to ordering.

Best dish of the day: black calamari rings.

Netflix instant does not work outside the US, did you know that? So we fell asleep watching German dart championships.
