As a big reader as a kid and a fan of YA fiction in general, I am surprised that the Sugar Creek Gang was unknown to me. Too bad, because their adventures seem somewhat (unintentionally?) nefarious. Like killing lots of wild life (including a battle with bees), getting involved with Chicago hits, the Mexican border, and Indian Cemeteries. They also scoff at the government and hop on over to Cuba and ride watermelons (?). I love that they got a “modern” update on the cover art too – that weird, shiny realistic style that highlights the fat kid. More favorite covers below/after the jump.
